WAIPOUA FOREST
Waipoua Forest is the home of Te Matua Ngahere (Father of the Forest)which is estimated to be about 3,000 years old, and Tāne Mahuta (The Lord of the Forest), which is about 2,000 years old and still growing. These Kauri are well known as the largest living Kauri tree in New Zealand. The leaders from Waipoua Forrest and the Yakushima community in Japan have launched the "Family of Ancient Trees" in 2009 as raising mutual awareness and encourage eco-tourism. Waipoua Forest tour is the one of 5 places in the world you could have the chance to explore such a giant tree. We do recommend taking tour as there is no public transport to the Forest.
